My Newest Toy!

All things considered, I’d rather travel / tour on my new Street Glide than in my automobile….. but in doing so I miss many opportunities to stop and view the scenery in many places along my routes because there is no safe place to pull off the highway, park the bike and take a picture or two, or just admire the scenery along the way. Even the state highway viewing points or designated pull-off areas are not suitable for a motorcycle because most are unpaved and covered with fine gravel or crushed rock… both of which are the bane of a two-wheeler.

My automobile is also really not one that is appropriate for exiting the highway on anything but a designated pull-off area, and even thinking about driving up some forest service road to a hidden view of some obscure canyon is simply out of the question. Hence the dilemma!  Recently I have been scanning the used car sales websites for a ‘good, used’ Jeep Wrangler in the $5,000 to $7,500 range as a second vechicle for use for my off-road adventures. While some have been available, they are not on the market very long, and of major concern, most are high-mileage vehicles in that price range.

Yesterday, I visited two local Jeep dealerships to look at used Wranglers that fit my financial criteria. While both vehicles were shown available for sale the previous evening, both had already been sold when I arrived at each dealership, in turn. At the second dealership I asked the salesman to show me a new Wrangler thinking that I would trade my SUV for that new Jeep, possibly an ‘even’ trade, or at least close. After a short test drive in a new Jeep Wrangler Sport a negotiation began. A final price was agreed upon, and I picked up my newest toy mid-afternoon.

Here is a picture:

The first thing that impressed me about this new toy was how quiet it was inside. The noise from the vehicle itself was imperceptable. Traffic noise from outside the vehicle was less than I had remembered from my SUV. Even with the larger tires this vehicle gives a quiet and comfortable ride.

Now I can stop at all those points along the highways to enjoy the views and take some pictures when I’m driving my newest toy!
